We Park New York.TM
Season Greetings and THANK YOU!
With a raised clenched fist, Icon Parking takes tremendous pride in commemorating
Juneteenth, the Freedom Day in celebration of African slaves overcoming their bondage and
being freed. Juneteenth, to us means demonstrating our commitment to the holiday’s
meaning and reveling in the African American traditions, and embodying what our ancestors
taught us about strength, resiliency, hope, mental fortitude, and the power of community.
The Juneteenth holiday goes beyond giving African American team members in the
workforce, customers, neighbors, and friends an opportunity to celebrate their heritage and
acknowledge the relentless struggle to have a positive impact on America and the world. It
has extended into a call for the rest of the country to acknowledge the scourge that slavery
has left on the people, institutions, and the joint psyche of America.
However, as our ancestors showed great strength, hope and resiliency to overcome, we
can find strength in unity, inclusivity, and community. It’s time to not only take a stand
against racism, inequality, and exclusion in our communities, but to lead by example
and proudly raise our collective fists as it connotes, revolutionary spirit, pride, unity, and
power to overcome a shared experience and struggle which seems appropriate for the
holiday. Here is a little history of the “clenched fist.“
